I just looked at my last post from July 2018. I said I would post again before summer was over. I lied. Sorry! But here I am again with a another year long update.
Last summer my friend and I decided that we needed to make the most of our summer and instituted "Traveling Tuesdays". We made a point to get out and see things as many Tuesdays as we could so we couldn't say that the summer got away from us. It was fun to have something to look forward to each week and to travel around PA a bit. The things that seemed big and scary, like taking a train into Philly, all of a sudden became normal and easy. It made the summer special and will always be a summer I remember well!
This summer I also spent some time FINALLY going through our last moving boxes of photo albums and unpacked everything. I emptied every single box and took a trip down memory lane. There were smiles, there were laughs, there were tears. Pictures really are a special thing.
Then it was back to school. I am teaching 4th grade again and it's been nice to be in the same grade a few years in a row. I have a good understanding of what I'm teaching and what needs to be done. It has made this school year go very smoothly. Our spring break isn't until next week, but with it being so late in the year I'm hopeful that the weather will be beautiful. I will be heading to Chicago for a few days to see Aunt Patty (YAY!!!) and am really excited to get back to Chicago. It's been a long time since I've been there!
We spent Thanksgiving in PA with good friends and good laughs. Then, we got to go to Denver for Christmas and spend our first Christmas with BRINLEY! It was SO fun to see her excitement on Christmas morning and we spent the entire day opening gifts. Yup, the entire day. Sarah and John were smart about spacing it out so she got time to play with her toys and she had the excitement of opening presents basically every hour. It made the whole day fun. A few days after that, Sarah and John took off for the hospital and brought back our first nephew on that side of the family, Micah! We stayed with Brinley and I got to spend a good amount of time with Sarah and Micah at the hospital. It was really special to be able to be there and be with them through such a major life transition.
After spending time in our basement unpacking boxes this summer, we decided it was time to get rid of the mauve carpet and mocha colored walls. We also had to retile a shower, so we hunkered down after Christmas and started the process of updating the house a little bit.
I'm sure you can all see where this is going...we unpack our last box, finally hang pictures on the wall, update the things in the house that have bothered us for 3 years....yup. We are moving.
Andy was offered a job in New York that was an amazing opportunity and we couldn't pass up the chance to do something so unique. He put in his notice at work in PA in January and he started working for WeWork in February. At first we thought he could mostly work from home with a little travel, and it's turning into him working in New York with a few days here and there that he can be home. As we started to figure that out, we decided that I would finish off the school year in PA and we would list our house and move to New Jersey.
Now, that's how it should have happened, but Andy and I like to keep things interesting. We went to go look at houses in New Jersey a few weeks ago, just to see what the market was like, and realized we HAD to have this one house. So without being pre-approved, I had not turned in my notice, and our house wasn't on the market, we made an offer and they accepted. We got our house listed within about a week and it sold right away. We are now neck deep in inspections, packing, and reorganizing our lives. We will be moving to northern New Jersey early this summer! Andy will commute into the city, and I will figure out what is next for me after this school year is over and we are settled in the house.
We are selling 3 years and 3 days after we bought this house. We LOVED this house. I moved in thinking it was our forever home. As I am getting more accustomed to moving, I am learning that it doesn't matter what house we live in or what state we live in, our friends are our friends, our family is always there for us and that's what makes life good. That being said, this was a good home to us and we are sad to say goodbye. We also realize that we do live far away from family and friends, so our next house has plenty of space for all who want to come visit!
Saying goodbye to my friends/family at school is not going to be easy. They are what made this transition so easy for me. Moving to PA could have been a big scary thing, but I met people who took me in as though I had always been with them and have become some of my closest friends. I am happy that we will only be a 2 hour drive, but I do not want to think about what my life will be like without getting to see them every day at work. Ok, enough sappy stuff.
The purpose of starting this blog was to keep family informed, so despite my previous lies, I really will keep this updated so everyone can know where we are!
Spring is for new growth and new beginnings. Here we go!
Here's a picture of Deb, just because.
