Blogging is not as easy as they make it look. I find myself thinking of things to write all the time, but never actually getting in front of the computer to write it. I have found with all of the technology at my fingertips, it's hard to find a keyboard where I can actually write a decent amount. I am not a big texter, and every email I write from my phone has ridiculous grammatical errors and auto-corrects. If I "Respond All" to an email that should not be "Responded All" to, you can guarantee it was sent from my phone. That being said, here is a recap of our summer!
Firefly was fantastic, yet again. We have a great group of friends to go with and I love starting off my summer with live music and very little concern about time. The only reason we check a clock is to see when the next show is. This year I was at a "Weezer" show as they played their new song "Feels Like Summer" and just smiled, thinking about the whole summer ahead of us. It is a great way to celebrate the end of another school year and the start of relaxation.
We got back from Firefly and I darted off to Denver a couple days later. Andy's cousin got married in CO, so I figured I'd add time on to the front and back of that weekend so I could really spend time with Brinley. Wow, do I love that little girl. My sister and John made one beautiful little person. Being in Denver feels like home to me. I loved letting Brinley show me all over her house and yard. That girl is on the go. She doesn't rest unless she's sleeping. I am so lucky that I am in a career that allows for me to spend so much time with my family. Living far from all of our family can be tough, but being able to see them so often and for so long makes it a little easier.
After those travels I spent some time in PA and New Jersey. I had a goal to get to the beach once a week this summer, and I got there 5/6 weeks that I was in town. It was incredible. A few of the trips were overnights with friends and a few were just day trips. It's still a luxury for me to be able to go to the beach for a day. I hope this is something that I don't get used to and continue to take advantage of it.
One of my trips was to Stone Harbor in July with my friend from MN, Jen. She and I worked together and became friends in the process. It was so fun to have someone in my room every day that I was excited to see and talk to. It makes going to work just that much better. She flew in at the end of July for a few days and our first stop was the shore. We tried to get in as much time as we could so we laid out, had dinner and went back around dusk, then spent a few more hours there the next day. It's amazing how much there is to say when you haven't had a chance to catch up with someone in a while. Laying at the beach is the perfect way to really get to talk to someone. We came back to West Chester and spent some time in town and around this area. We finished her trip with a concert in New Jersey (Jimmy Eat World...AHHHHHH!!!!!!) and really had a good time. She helped me explore a small town in my area that I'd been wanting to wander around but just hadn't made the time to do it. I also got to try a new restaurant with her that I LOVED! It's fun that my memories of her trip include a lot of really unique and new things that I got to do, so when I do them again I will think of her.
A few days after she left, Andy and I had Lasik done. Yup. Same day, one appointment right after the other. We'd both wanted it for a while and I heard there was a little recovery time with it. No better time to recover than a summer off! My friend Rachel had had it done already so she came with to ease the anxiety. (It didn't work; I was stressed!) But, after the surgery she then brought us home and became Nurse Rachel. She fed us, kept us company, put our eye drops in at the scheduled time, and kept Deb company while Andy and I slept. The next day, Andy and I woke up and we were good to go! Ok, so there was a LITTLE more healing time then that, but we really did go golfing just 2 days later and it was incredible. That was Andy's first time golfing without glasses and he could actually keep track of the ball the entire way. He is thrilled! I highly recommend doing Lasik and I highly recommend Siepser Eye Care if you are in the area. They really were quite friendly and made the process easy for us.
The first couple weeks of August we took it easy around the house, then headed off to Minnesota for our final summer HURRAH! We flew in and drove up to a cabin to spend a few days with his family. It was so nice to have everyone in one house and to be able to see everyone for a full day rather than the chopped up visits here and there. The house we stayed it was beautiful and perfect for the number of people we had. Those are the types of memories we will always love and I'm hoping the kids will remember those as really fun times too. We drove down to the cities a few days later to go to my cousins wedding and hang out with my parents. We tried to squeeze in as many people as we could on Sunday (trust me, we SQUEEZED!) and then flew back home early Monday. It was a crammed trip but it was so much fun. It was a really great way to end a really fun summer.
Now we are back into the cycle of 5 day work weeks and alarm clocks set every day. I loved my summer, but routine is a good thing too. I am in 4th grade again this year. It's great to feel like I kind of know what I'm doing. It's been a couple of years since I've felt that way. Work for Andy is busy and good. Buildings are being built, which is crazy to think that the factory just opened a little over 2 years ago.
As I write, I am waiting for Mike and Kathy to show up! They are in town for the weekend so we will be showing them our house, taking them around town (West Chester) and spending a day in New York so they can see some of Andy's buildings. There's the garage now! Happy Fall!
