Another anniversary in the books

This week was the one year anniversary of us closing on our house. The moment we stepped into it we said it felt like it was always ours, and it still feels that way. We can definitely call it home.

This school year has flown by, as they always do. I almost feel like this one went even faster than most though. I feel like I'm still trying to get caught up, and it's to the point that I'll probably just have to let some things go. I like the curriculum that we teach in 4th grade so everything was interesting to me and that makes it even more fun to teach. I also have an incredible team which makes everything more fun. I fell into the best school and work with some really incredible people who have become my good friends. I am one lucky girl.

This winter/spring we really did stick around the area and have some visitors come see what PA is like. My friend Amanda came in January and we did a day in DC, a day in Gettysburg, and got to downtown Philly. That was a whirlwind of a weekend.

We stayed here for my spring break and Aunt Patty came to town. Again, we absolutely loved it! We did the touristy stuff downtown and went to a museum that we didn't realize existed. Of course Patty knew pretty much every artist in there. Andy and I learned a lot. We spent a day at Longwood Gardens, which if you don't know what it is you have to Google it. My explanation of the conservatory and fountains and garden won't do it justice. Otherwise we ate a lot of good food, drank coffee, and sat out on the deck and watched the Cherry tree bloom. Yup, it was that relaxing! We also didn't realize we had 2 cherry trees that would bloom on our property. It was so pretty!

I got to make a weekend trip back to MN at the end of April so I got to see family and friends for a short time. My sister was also in town and it was the first time in a LONG time that my entire immediate family was together. Sarah and I shared a bed at mom and dad's house and it was a lot of fun.

Our most recent visitors were my parents. Last year they got to see the house during our final walk through, but we were really excited to have them get to stay at the house this time. We did a lot of similar things that we do with most visitors, (we are kinda a one trick pony) including a visit to Longwood Gardens. We also loved showing them around the town of West Chester and a few other small towns around us. We had to work while they were here so they got to take day trips to Lancaster (an Amish area) and the Poconos. Their trip went by so quickly. All of us (including Deb) loved having them here.

Memorial Day is the kick off to summer and that is definitely the case for us. I will be busy closing up the school year, and on my last day of school, Andy is off to Firefly in Dover, DE. I will meet him and our friends down there the next day and we will be starting off summer with a lot of live music. We will come back from there and I leave the next day for Denver to spend some well needed time with Brinley. I am going for a couple of weeks, and Andy will join me for a long weekend and a cousin's wedding. Then we are home and another friend of mine is coming in July. In August we head back to MN for a cabin getaway and another wedding. Then the summer is over. Oh my!

Until next time!

Hello Fall!

This was my first year in more than a decade that I didn't have a classroom to set up in the fall.  Andy and I decided that with the logistics of the move, this was a good time for me to take a break from teaching and decide what I want to be when I grow up.  I have not said goodbye to education forever, but it will probably look a bit different in the future as I don't see myself going back into a classroom as a classroom teacher.  We shall see!  That being said, somehow this summer went faster than any other that I can remember.  To even think that it's October feels strange as my daily routine is so different than it would normally be this time of year. The changing of the trees even surprised me as I didn't realize how late in the year it was.  So let's take a trip down memory lane and review what the last part of what our summer looked like. As I mentioned previously, teachers have to take advantage of their time off in the summer, so I had some frie...

And Then There Were Four!

As you can see, blogging got pushed WAY far down on my to do this these past 18 months.  18 months!  James is 18 months old already.  There's no way I can recap a year and a half in one blog post so I'll just give some of the highlights.   When I was pregnant I found a group of other pregnant woman who met on Zoom once a week.  Everyone on the call was about to be a first time mom and we were in the thick of Covid so we were all quite isolated.  I honestly don't even remember how I found this group but it has become our village.  There are 18 of us that all mostly live within a few miles of each other and had babies within a 6 month period.  To this day we keep in touch daily.  We had to move from regular texting to an app with different channels/topics (clearly I don't really know what I'm talking about here) but the point is that we are all in constant communication and this group has come to our rescue multiple times. We have get toge...

Home Sweet New Jersey

Well, I've been in no rush to unpack. I've decided that I'll really start the job hunt once the house is put together. Last time it took me 3 years and I'm moving at a bit of a slower pace this time around. The things that are distracting me are waking up late, taking time to drink my multiple cups of coffee, reading books, floating in the pool, and NYC. Many of these things can only truly be enjoyed during the summer months so I think it makes sense to use the time while I have it. Andy hasn't disagreed yet, but I'm sure I'll start to get some looks come fall. For the 4th of July we decided to stay home and see what we could see from our house. We live on a hill so we were hopeful we'd have a view. I had the great idea to watch from the roof. Turns our my fear of heights is as bad as I remember it being so I only made it, shaking, for about 5 minutes before I had to climb down. We ended up being able to watch the fireworks from our staircase. ...
