I think I'm done counting the weeks

Counting the weeks can no longer be a thing because I have now lost track. We are settling in to our life out here and it feels like home. We are busy during the weeks and exhausted at night and the weekends seem to always be full of more than we can fit in. The only complaint Andy has is that he's not home enough. Andy has been traveling back and forth to MN and when he's not there, people from MN are traveling out here. That makes for a lot of happy hours and dinners with friends. I get to tag along with the boys, which I love. We generally are just having fun.

A couple weekends ago we went to Wisconsin/Michigan to spend time with Andy's family as we said our final goodbye to his grandfather. While it's not the ideal reason that we like planning trips, it was really a great weekend with family. It was peaceful and relaxing and absolutely beautiful. It is always great to see Andy's side of the family, especially since many of them have made their homes in different parts of the country. It was also the first time I got to see his family since we moved.

Since school has started we have only had 4 day weeks with days off for various holidays. Last week I took my day off and finally went and got my PA driver's license. They don't ask you for your weight! Love it! They also give you a 'temporary' card which looks like the actual card but has big red print across it that says "temporary". That's way better then trying to shove yellow carbon copied papers into your wallet. Unfortunately, it was a 2 hour wait at the PENNDOT office. Both Andy and I need PA licenses before we can register our cars and get new plates. We're a little bit late on the 20 day deadline from when you move to register your cars...I hope that deadline is more of a guideline! It's incredible how many things you have to do and change when you move.

Have no fear though, we would absolutely never let the stress of a to-do list keep us from having fun! Last weekend the Pope was in town which means we joined the throngs of people that fled town. We headed back to the shore for a super fun weekend away. I think the shore might be one of my favorite places ever and I am beyond grateful to be able to get there so often. One evening I took our friend's dog on a little bike ride to the beach. Watching a dog run on the beach is so fun! The following morning I went back and walked along the shore next to HUGE waves. The wind was strong, the waves were crashing, and I could not have been happier. I love the feeling of being surrounded by sand and ocean as far as the eye can see.

And one more thing that I love...my job. I absolutely love it. I am so happy in this school and in this district. I love my drive to work AND I just found the most adorable coffee shop just down the street from my school. That place will be getting a large chunk of my paycheck. It's all about finding joy in the little things, and I am finding a lot of joy out here.

Coming up this weekend: Company Karaoke!!!!

Hello Fall!

This was my first year in more than a decade that I didn't have a classroom to set up in the fall.  Andy and I decided that with the logistics of the move, this was a good time for me to take a break from teaching and decide what I want to be when I grow up.  I have not said goodbye to education forever, but it will probably look a bit different in the future as I don't see myself going back into a classroom as a classroom teacher.  We shall see!  That being said, somehow this summer went faster than any other that I can remember.  To even think that it's October feels strange as my daily routine is so different than it would normally be this time of year. The changing of the trees even surprised me as I didn't realize how late in the year it was.  So let's take a trip down memory lane and review what the last part of what our summer looked like. As I mentioned previously, teachers have to take advantage of their time off in the summer, so I had some frie...

And Then There Were Four!

As you can see, blogging got pushed WAY far down on my to do this these past 18 months.  18 months!  James is 18 months old already.  There's no way I can recap a year and a half in one blog post so I'll just give some of the highlights.   When I was pregnant I found a group of other pregnant woman who met on Zoom once a week.  Everyone on the call was about to be a first time mom and we were in the thick of Covid so we were all quite isolated.  I honestly don't even remember how I found this group but it has become our village.  There are 18 of us that all mostly live within a few miles of each other and had babies within a 6 month period.  To this day we keep in touch daily.  We had to move from regular texting to an app with different channels/topics (clearly I don't really know what I'm talking about here) but the point is that we are all in constant communication and this group has come to our rescue multiple times. We have get toge...

Not Funemployed for much longer!

October felt like one long weekend. November has been fairly quiet in the Black household as we are settling in and getting ready for our first holiday season in New Jersey. Andy's been busy at work, as always, and I've been trying to keep myself busy while not working. Our friends, Scott and Linda, were in town for a weekend in October and we did a day in NYC. I posted a picture in the last post but didn't share much about it. We started the day by breezing through Hudson Yards and then heading to the Upper West Side and had lunch at Jacob's Pickles. That place is insanely good! We walked over to Joe's coffee and then headed into Central Park. I was hoping for some fall colors but we were a little too early. It was still a super pretty day and fun to walk in the park. We walked all the way to Times Square, and then headed home. It was a LONG day, but we saw so much! Every day in NYC is a long day when it's all about sight seeing. I would much rather walk everyw...
