Week 2

This past week has been extremely busy. Andy was gone all of last week and I was working on unpacking, watching our friends kids, and trying to convince Deb that she didn't have to scream and scratch and cry and bark every time I left the apartment. We're getting there.

On Friday Andy was in Minnesota and closed on our house! I can't believe it sold in the timing that it did, we got what we wanted plus some, and the timing worked so well for Andy getting back for closing. Since I pre-signed everything it was quite simple I hear. The best part about the whole thing is that the lady moving into the house LOVES the house. She is so excited to be in the neighborhood and in that house. That makes selling it much easier. On our side here, we LOVE the apartment. I was not sold on the idea of apartment living when Andy first mentioned it but not having yard work and worrying about something breaking every time you flip on a light switch is AMAZING! Everything is so well thought out at our building and we are loving it. We currently are still without internet which means I'm hanging out in the business center, but at least there is a business center. The pool has been perfect for me and the kids I'm watching. The location is better than we even thought...it's perfect for us right now.

Speaking of location, it's perfect for my NEW JOB!!! Last week I was offered the position of 5th grade teacher at Unionville Elementary in the Unionville- Chadds Ford school district! (Pending board approval tonight). I start tomorrow with my new teacher induction and I have 3 days of that this week. Next Monday I start with back to school workshops and kids come August 31st. It all feels like it happened quite quickly. I was sure I would be subbing this year as there seemed to be NO job openings in the districts I was looking at. It was a bit tricky to get my application in on time but I did it and had my first interview last Monday. I was called back that night for my 2nd interview on Wednesday where I met with the Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent and they had my offer letter written up already! I am excited to meet people tomorrow, see my new building and classroom and start to figure out what I just got myself into.

Andy got home late Friday night and this was the first weekend we were in the apartment together. (Remember when I left him to go to the shore the first weekend here...And did I mention that I love him but the ocean was amazing?) Saturday morning Andy got up bright and early and went golfing with his friends again. I'm really happy he has a golfing group out here. Since Andy was already busy, I took the opportunity to go with a friend to downtown Philadelphia. It was so great! The character of the buildings and neighborhoods is so unique and interesting. It was absolutely beautiful. My friend drove so I got to look around and really take it all in. We stopped at some adorable shops and found some adorable things. After she dropped me off Andy and I went to a friends house and hung out with some of the other families that just moved here from Chicago and Miami. It's fun to meet and be with all these people who came together to make this business happen. On Sunday Andy and I finally had the time to go shopping and get some furniture to try to arrange the house a bit more. We're on the home stretch!

Things I'm looking forward to this upcoming week:
-Starting at a new school tomorrow
-Exploring the building and my classroom
-Meeting some colleagues
-Getting my school stuff out of storage
-Finishing unpacking and getting the house ready for Sarah and Phil to come to town on Saturday!
-Putting together some ideas of what we can do next weekend with the family
-Andy being home

Hello Fall!

This was my first year in more than a decade that I didn't have a classroom to set up in the fall.  Andy and I decided that with the logistics of the move, this was a good time for me to take a break from teaching and decide what I want to be when I grow up.  I have not said goodbye to education forever, but it will probably look a bit different in the future as I don't see myself going back into a classroom as a classroom teacher.  We shall see!  That being said, somehow this summer went faster than any other that I can remember.  To even think that it's October feels strange as my daily routine is so different than it would normally be this time of year. The changing of the trees even surprised me as I didn't realize how late in the year it was.  So let's take a trip down memory lane and review what the last part of what our summer looked like. As I mentioned previously, teachers have to take advantage of their time off in the summer, so I had some frie...

And Then There Were Four!

As you can see, blogging got pushed WAY far down on my to do this these past 18 months.  18 months!  James is 18 months old already.  There's no way I can recap a year and a half in one blog post so I'll just give some of the highlights.   When I was pregnant I found a group of other pregnant woman who met on Zoom once a week.  Everyone on the call was about to be a first time mom and we were in the thick of Covid so we were all quite isolated.  I honestly don't even remember how I found this group but it has become our village.  There are 18 of us that all mostly live within a few miles of each other and had babies within a 6 month period.  To this day we keep in touch daily.  We had to move from regular texting to an app with different channels/topics (clearly I don't really know what I'm talking about here) but the point is that we are all in constant communication and this group has come to our rescue multiple times. We have get toge...

Not Funemployed for much longer!

October felt like one long weekend. November has been fairly quiet in the Black household as we are settling in and getting ready for our first holiday season in New Jersey. Andy's been busy at work, as always, and I've been trying to keep myself busy while not working. Our friends, Scott and Linda, were in town for a weekend in October and we did a day in NYC. I posted a picture in the last post but didn't share much about it. We started the day by breezing through Hudson Yards and then heading to the Upper West Side and had lunch at Jacob's Pickles. That place is insanely good! We walked over to Joe's coffee and then headed into Central Park. I was hoping for some fall colors but we were a little too early. It was still a super pretty day and fun to walk in the park. We walked all the way to Times Square, and then headed home. It was a LONG day, but we saw so much! Every day in NYC is a long day when it's all about sight seeing. I would much rather walk everyw...
