The Goodbye Tour

I am so grateful for these last 2 weeks of being in town but not focusing on packing and organizing. We have been busy spending time with friends and family and finishing up things we need to do around here to get ourselves ready to leave. Andy's family from Texas was in town so it was great to see them before we go. We also got to spend time with my aunt and cousins on the water over the 4th of July. One thing that we are realizing is that it will be harder to see out of town family unless we coordinate it. That was definitely something we took for granted with so much family being in MN.

I've also had time to get back to the house and clean up without feeling too rushed. It's been good to really make sure the house is looking good for the new owner. I've also rechecked the cabinets for things I have forgotten about 5 times. I did that once and found a whole shelf I hadn't packed so I'm a little paranoid that I'll leave something behind now.

Speaking of the house, the inspection and appraisal both went well so we are set to close on August 14th! The timing of so many things has really worked well. The lease for the truck was up this month so we can take care of all the paperwork for buying that without having to do things long distance. Who would have thought that 3 years ago, when we leased the truck on a whim, that the month the lease was up we would be moving out of state?

It is really quite refreshing to be living without all the clutter that was in our house. I had no idea how much stuff we really had accumulated until I let myself start throwing stuff out. Living out of a suitcase for a week has shown me how little I really actually need and want. I have a feeling that the Goodwill in PA will be getting a whole new inventory in about 2 weeks.

This weekend is Andy and his dad's birthday so we are looking forward to celebrating it ALL weekend. Tonight we are off to Canterbury with Andy's family to see the horse races, one last time. Tomorrow we get to celebrate Andy's actual birthday with my parents. Then Saturday we are going out to dinner with Andy's family. We are trying to soak up as much social interaction as we can!

Last night I got to say goodbye to some of my closest co-workers. While I know it's not goodbye forever, it's still goodbye for now and that's hard. We also had one last drink at our friend's house in Eagan. While a house is just a house, it also holds a lot of memories. Really great memories. And we had a great last night and last drink there. That will be a memory I will cherish.

While it's all goodbyes at home, I am looking forward to SO MUCH about moving to Pennsylvania! I can't WAIT to be so close to the ocean. My guess is that I'll find a way to get out there my first weekend. I've heard the Delaware beaches are beautiful and only about an hour away. An HOUR!!! I can't believe I'm actually going to live that close to the OCEAN. I also am super excited to be in our BRAND NEW apartment where everything is clean and sparkly and shiny. And I'm really looking forward to being in the same city as some great new friends that we have gotten to know recently. We have so much to look forward to and so much fun to be had.

Hello Fall!

This was my first year in more than a decade that I didn't have a classroom to set up in the fall.  Andy and I decided that with the logistics of the move, this was a good time for me to take a break from teaching and decide what I want to be when I grow up.  I have not said goodbye to education forever, but it will probably look a bit different in the future as I don't see myself going back into a classroom as a classroom teacher.  We shall see!  That being said, somehow this summer went faster than any other that I can remember.  To even think that it's October feels strange as my daily routine is so different than it would normally be this time of year. The changing of the trees even surprised me as I didn't realize how late in the year it was.  So let's take a trip down memory lane and review what the last part of what our summer looked like. As I mentioned previously, teachers have to take advantage of their time off in the summer, so I had some frie...

And Then There Were Four!

As you can see, blogging got pushed WAY far down on my to do this these past 18 months.  18 months!  James is 18 months old already.  There's no way I can recap a year and a half in one blog post so I'll just give some of the highlights.   When I was pregnant I found a group of other pregnant woman who met on Zoom once a week.  Everyone on the call was about to be a first time mom and we were in the thick of Covid so we were all quite isolated.  I honestly don't even remember how I found this group but it has become our village.  There are 18 of us that all mostly live within a few miles of each other and had babies within a 6 month period.  To this day we keep in touch daily.  We had to move from regular texting to an app with different channels/topics (clearly I don't really know what I'm talking about here) but the point is that we are all in constant communication and this group has come to our rescue multiple times. We have get toge...

Not Funemployed for much longer!

October felt like one long weekend. November has been fairly quiet in the Black household as we are settling in and getting ready for our first holiday season in New Jersey. Andy's been busy at work, as always, and I've been trying to keep myself busy while not working. Our friends, Scott and Linda, were in town for a weekend in October and we did a day in NYC. I posted a picture in the last post but didn't share much about it. We started the day by breezing through Hudson Yards and then heading to the Upper West Side and had lunch at Jacob's Pickles. That place is insanely good! We walked over to Joe's coffee and then headed into Central Park. I was hoping for some fall colors but we were a little too early. It was still a super pretty day and fun to walk in the park. We walked all the way to Times Square, and then headed home. It was a LONG day, but we saw so much! Every day in NYC is a long day when it's all about sight seeing. I would much rather walk everyw...
